Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, by Mary Roach

I thought this book was pretty fabulous. I could be slightly morbid, and I've always been curious about just about everything. This book was great for satisfying both of those things. I learned things about the history of how dead people have been treated, what can be done with your body if you donate it to science, and about funerals too. The end of the book was a little less interesting than the beginning for me, but it was still compelling the entire way through. It was gross in places, as one would expect, but I thought she did a good job of being respectful throughout.

If you've got a morbid curiosity, and can handle some slightly gross stuff, read this book.

But you don't have to take my word for it...

  1. I own this book!! It's fantastic! In fact, this book has made me seriously consider donating my body to science when I die. After all, how else is the medical field supposed to advance??
