More Indiana News

On Sunday night, we took a little trip to the Vet's office, because Indiana had run under a trampoline too close to a pole and gotten his skin caught on a bolt that was poking out underneath it.
Seeing that it was a bad cut, we decided he would probably need some stitches. Our neighbor (who's house we were at) called the vet. Soon after that, Indiana was temporarily bandaged until the vet could meet us over there.
This is me, holding our poor bandaged puppy. I'm making this face because I'm sad for him--especially since he's already been to the vet one this week for surgery.
This is what Indiana's cut looked like after it was all stitched up. He got 4 stitches, and the end result looks kind of like a phoenix. We're certain he will rise again and play with his friend.
But, for now, he needs to rest a little. The poor puppy also has to grow fur back in two places where he's been shaved recently.
We don't want to focus on that though, let's enjoy some pictures of Indiana and Stormy playing for now, and hope that they can play again before we move on Friday.
Also, in case you don't know--getting two small puppies to sit still long enough to get a picture taken is nearly impossible.


Confession: While we were there helping/watching the vet take care of Indiana, I actually had to leave the room and go outside for a second because I felt lightheaded and queasy. This is not my normal response to situations like this. I can give blood and help clean up a cut or a scrape without too much difficulty. While the vet was cleaning out Indiana's cut and shaving him around it and everything else, I just couldn't take it. Thankfully Nate, who usually has more difficulty with this kind of thing than I do, managed to hold it all together the whole time. I guess it's a good thing that I didn't become a pediatrician or a dentist like I thought I wanted to for awhile. I really can't handle the thought that I'm helping to cause people physical pain...even if it fixes them in the long run.

Indiana's Getting Schooled... Updated

I dropped Indiana off at the Vet's today to get fixed before we move. We decided to do it now since he doesn't have any annoying male puppy behaviors, and we'd like to keep him that way, because he's so great right now.

It was so sad to leave him at the vet's though. As soon as we walked into the door he turned as if he wanted to head back out of it. Then we went all the way back to the kennel room where he has to wait until it's his surgery time. He was really scared to go into the kennel, and once he was in he let out the most pathetic whine...I almost cried right there in the vet's office. They told me I could come and pick him up this afternoon. I stopped by a local butchers, and bought a couple of bags of dog bones on the way home. Once I got home, I called Nate, and then cried.

I had no idea I was THIS attached to him. I sure hope they do a good job.

Update: Indiana is doing fine, he's eating, he's playing (carefully) and he's happy to see us. Phew.

He's Here!

I don't know why he looks so tiny here...

And so HUGE here. He really is pretty small.

He's so much more adorable in person. He hasn't barked yet, he's only whined a little bit, and he's even gone to the bathroom where he's supposed to a couple of times. Right now, he's spread out, totally on his belly, all his limbs out, asleep.

He's awesome.

Odds and Ends

There are some things that I really love about our current apartment. It has hardwood floors, which, although they require more sweeping, are pretty fantastic. This stove is also wonderful. It's got all kinds of digital features, and it boils water like no other. As a result of having such a stove as this, I've been doing more baking as of late. Today, I made banana bread. On Sunday, I made this:





It was a fantastic lemon cake with cream cheese frosting and a fresh strawberry glaze.

Mmmm.

On Sunday night, Nate saved me from
a bunch of baby bugs that decided to take up residence in our apartment. The windows were open, and one of them doesn't have a screen. Pretty soon, there were clusters of small flies and mosquitoes clustered around the tops of all three of our lamps. When I saw them, I let out a small yelp. Being disgusted, I was having trouble thinking of what to do. Nate came to my aid and grabbed the vacuum, and he sucked all the little bugs up. My Hero.


Tomorrow is when we get Indiana. I've been working on "Puppy Proofing" the house. Oddly enough, tons of the stuff for puppies looks just like the stuff for babies, and some of the rules are similar. Teething toys, play pens, etc. As well as making sure that stuff that the dog could eat is off of the floor. And making sure that things that you don't want chewed are out of reach. While I'm super excited, I will have some issues if the dog gets a hold of my Chacos. Guess I'll just have to keep the shoes off the floor.

Check out the newest member of our family--Indiana (you know...like Jones) He's a lovely black tri Australian Shepherd. He'll be joining our family in just a couple of days.

And man, are we ever excited.
